Premiere: 6 May 2012, First Baptist Church, Worcester, MA
Duration: 4’30”
Instrumentation: SATB voices, brass quartet (2 trumpets and 2 trombones), organ
Performance Note: Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord was written over the New Year’s weekend, 2012. It is a setting of Psalm 98:4-9 for brass (a pair of trumpets and trombones), SATB voices, and organ, and was composed for the annual Anthem Competition sponsored by the First Baptist Church, Worcester, for which it was chosen the winner. The basic form is ABA, with the A sections hinting at Walton and Mahler, while the B interlude features an isorhythmic episode.
